Rockstar has dominant teams at cheer and dance nationals

The Foo Fighters, a Senior Level I team at Rockstar, gets a pep talk after their final performance before the national competition in Orlando, Fla., this weekend.
 
 

Hundreds of cheerleaders and dancers from the Rockstar cheer and dance teams in Greer will compete this weekend at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla.

Rockstar qualified 10 teams with up to 30 members each from a series of regional youth, junior and senior competitions. Rockstar earned bids to The Summit at the Disney World competition by earning the No. 1 or No. 2 placements at each regional competition.

Joffrey Ballet won't be rescheduled this season

The Peace Center’s presentation of the Joffrey Ballet, originally scheduled for March 24, cannot be rescheduled this season.

Patrons who purchased tickets will be contacted by e-mail and given the option of receiving a venue credit, applying the amount paid toward another show, making a tax-deductible donation to the Peace Center or receiving a refund.

Road closings announced for weekend Family Fest

Roads, including Depot and Randall streets, will be closed during Friday and Saturday's Greer Family Fest.
 

Roads in the downtown central business district will be closed Friday and Saturday for the 31st Annual Pelham Medical Center Greer Family Fest.

All roads will be closed to vehicular traffic throughout the entire event.

Celebrities, free concert announced for BMW Charity Pro-Am

Twenty-nine celebrities, including six first-time participants, will be in Greenville the week of May 11 for the 2015 BMW Charity Pro-Am.

In addition to the participating celebrities, tournament officials also announced the lineup for the free Celebrity Concert on Main. The concert is open to the public and will be held on Main Street on May 14 from 6-10 p.m.

Williams brings images to life at home and from far away

DC and McGee, boyhood friends, were photographed by Perry Williams more than 40 years ago under the crabapple tree at the old Greer High School.
 

Perry Williams has been taking photographs since he attended Greer High School. A camera, sometimes three or four, are nearby at all times.

Williams, a commissioner on the Greer Commission of Public Works, entrepreneur and professor at Clemson University, all but swept the Greer Juried Arts photography contest judged last month. He finished 1-2-3 in “Greer Goes Global” and 1-2 in “Greer – An Upstate Destination”.

Greer High School grads from every generation will be holding their annual reunion on Saturday, May 16 at Greer City Hall. The event is free.

The Price family, owners of Smith & James, Chelsea’s and Trims on Trade, are the presenting sponsors. Smith & James is celebrating its 99th year in business in downtown Greer.

More than the 600 grads who attended the 2014 Greer High Alumni Reunion are expected this year and there will be more restaurant seating availability – inside and out – with the new Wild Ace Pizza and Pub on Depot Street scheduled to open later this month.
