CPW commissioners approve aggressive Grease Strategy

A collection container for used cooking grease sits near the dumpsters behind BIN112. It is used to make biofuels. Other captured FOG are forwarded to landfills in enclosed containers.

Greer CPW has its sights set on being more active policing FOG  – fats, oils and grease – that may have accumulated within its sewer system.

Commissioners on Monday approved a more aggressive Grease Strategy, mostly through an education program for CPW customers. But violators will be fined if residential and commercial customers are unwilling to comply.

1.23 billion wings to be consumed Super Bowl weekend

Almost six in 10 (57 percent) U.S. adults who eat chicken wings said they typically like to eat their wings with ranch dressing, according to a new National Chicken Council poll.

According to the National Chicken Council’s 2013 Wing Report, more than 1.23 billion wing portions will be consumed during Super Bowl weekend, as fans watch the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens battle for the Lombardi Trophy.

To put that into perspective, if 1.23 billion wing segments were laid end to end, they would stretch from Candlestick Park in San Francisco to M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore … 27 times.

9th Annual Oyster Roast & Shrimp Boil tickets on sale

The 9th annual Oyster Roast & Shrimp Boil has added a Pig Pickin’ at this year’s event scheduled Friday, Feb. 22 from 6-9 p.m. at the 209 Depot Street warehouse.

Tickets are $35 for chamber members and $40 for non-members. Tickets sold after Feb. 18 are an additional $10 for each guest. The price includes all you can eat oysters, shrimp boil, pig pickin’ and beverages including soda, beer and wine.

Rebecca Gordon was featured in “The Official SEC Tailgating Cookbook”, where she shares the inside track on how to throw the best tailgate. Gordon spearheaded collaboration of the cookbook.

Southern Living Contributing Editor Rebecca Gordon who will conduct daily cooking, entertaining and gardening demonstrations at the Southern Home & Garden Show March 1-3 at TD Convention Center.

Gordon most recently served as Test Kitchen Director for the Birmingham, Ala.-based magazine where she developed and edited recipes and coordinated recipe testing for the monthly lifestyle publication.

Zaxby’s Franchising, Inc. announced that certain licensed restaurants have identified suspicious files on their systems that may have resulted in unauthorized access to credit and debit card information or have been identified by credit card processing companies as common points of purchase for some fraudulent activity.

IHOP 'All You Can Eat' pancake promotion begins Tuesday
JAN 1, 2013

The "All You Can Eat" pancake promotion at IHOP is returning Tuesday through Jan. 27. Guests can order one of the restaurant’s combos — all coming with a plate of two signature Buttermilk Pancakes. A stack of five buttermilk pancakes may be selected as the main course.

When the pancakes are gone guests may order additional servings of two more until the customer’s appetite holds outs.
