The 16th Annual 4th of July Arlington-Davenport Neighborhood Kids’ Parade is Thursday morning at 10 a.m. The parade begins in the 200 block of West Church Street in downtown Greer.

Here's some fun historical facts and figures about Independence Day.

The public is invited to participate in the parade. The route is approximately a mile-long, led by police vehicles.

Children will have the opportunity to meet Greer Mayor Rick Danner, co-organizer of the growing Independence Day event.

Infants, children, teens, parents and grandparents have participated in the past. “This is Americana,” Danner said.

Danner, his wife, Rita, and father-in-law, Alvin Howell are parade organizers.

U.S. flags, red, white and blue-decorated vehicles and bikes, wagons and scooters are part of the traditional holiday. Neighbors decorate porches and houses with parades and bunting.
