The first prospective buyer for the Allen Bennett Hospital campus has come and gone. Now, there’s a second candidate undergoing due diligence, according to City Administrator Ed Driggers.

“We have a letter of intent,” Driggers said. “They basically are seeing if ‘this property works for (them).’

The first prospective buyer this year issued its letter of intent to the city in January but bowed out purchasing the 7-acre, 200,000 square feet two-building campus located at Memorial Drive and Wade Hampton Boulevard.

Driggers said he was prohibited from identifying the prospective buyer or commenting on the discussions.

The City of Greer received a letter of clearance from DHEC earlier this year confirming the site cleanup is complete where 1,500 gallons of diesel fuel spilled out of an emergency generator in 2010 and went into a nearby creek.

DHEC officials noted no animals were harmed and no drinking water was known to have been contaminated after the spill.
