Greenville attorney Steve W. Sumner has been named a Best Law Firm 2017 by U.S. News & World Report.
Sumner is a DUI and criminal defense attorney serving Upstate South Carolina. The rankings are based on an evaluation process that includes the collection of client and lawyer evaluations, peer review from leading attorneys in their field, and review of additional information provided by law firms as part of the formal submission process. Clients were asked to provide feedback on firm practice groups, addressing expertise, responsiveness, understanding of a business and its needs, cost-effectiveness, civility, and whether they would refer another client to the firm. Lawyers also voted on expertise, responsiveness, integrity, cost-effectiveness, whether they would refer a matter to a firm, and whether they consider a firm a worthy competitor.
Sumner represents clients in over 25 courts in Upstate South Carolina, including Greenville, Anderson, Spartanburg, Pickens and Laurens counties; as well as the city/municipal courts of Greer, Greenville, Anderson, Spartanburg, Simpsonville, Mauldin, Fountain Inn, Easley, Clemson, Central and Laurens.
In 1997, Sumner opened his own practice as a criminal defense attorney. He graduated from the USC School of Law in 1992 and served as a state court prosecutor from 1992 to 1994. His primary case load consisted of prosecuting DUI, Felony DUI, Reckless Homicide and Traffic offenses.
