BJA students from Greer, Taylors earn speech, debate awards

Bob Jones Academy students who participated at the Viking Classic speech and debate competition hosted by North Mecklenburg High School in Huntersville, N.C., on Saturday. 

 

Bob Jones Academy students from Greer placed at the Viking Classic speech and debate competition hosted by North Mecklenburg High School in Huntersville, N.C., on Saturday. Thirty-six schools participated from North and South Carolina.

Jonathan Savoy placed 9th in the Varsity Lincoln Douglas Debate and Josh Casillas placed 9th in the Novice Lincoln Douglas Debate.

BJA students earning awards:

• 1st, Novice Original Oratory, Emma Pait of Greenville

• 2nd, Novice Lincoln Douglas Debate (4-0 record out of 55 contestants, Lauren Jacquette of Taylors

• 2nd, Novice Original Oratory, Audrey Chase of Aiken

4th, Novice Reading, Moriah Smith of Greenville

4th, Declamation, Kate Jones of Greenville

9th, Varsity Lincoln Douglas Debate, Jonathan Savoy of Greer

9th, Novice Lincoln Douglas Debate, Josh Casillas of Greer

The BJA’s first tournament was Sept. 27 held at Riverside High School, featuring 22 schools from four states.

3rd, Declamation, Ali Hermetz of Greenville

3rd, Oral Interpretation, Jennie Hudson of Lilburn, Ga.

2nd, Novice Oratory, Daniel Hudson of Lilburn, Ga.

3rd, Novice Oratory, Audrey Chase of Aiken

6th, Novice Lincoln Douglas Debate, Andrew Clater of Easley

5th, Novice Lincoln Douglas Debate, Anne Nguyen of Taylors

4th, Novice Lincoln Douglas Debate, 4-0 record, Lauren Jacquette of Taylors.
