Blue Ridge turned in impressive performances in jamborees. The Tigers are ready to keep that momentum rolling into their regular season opener Friday night.

Blue Ridge hosts Wade Hampton. The Generals have already played a game, losing their opener to Dorman last Friday, 49-7.

Wade Hampton sports a massive front line on both sides of the ball. Devante Scott, at 6-foot-2 325 pounds, and Doug Babb, 6-4, 300, anchor the defensive line. The Generals are also large along the offensive front, with 6-4, 305 junior Matt Malphrus plowing the road for running back Josh Edwards.

Head Coach Shane Clark said the size advantage and running game of the Generals will pose a threat.

"Wade Hampton will be a solid football team," Clark said. "They're a huge team and have some really big guys. They have good speed at the skill positions as well."

Blue Ridge will counter with its speedster, Vonta Jenkins, at running back. Quarterback Jake Smith has proven a capable leader of the offense. Couple that with the defensive pressure brought by tackle James Martin and linebacker Montavis Cofield, the Tigers are confident they will be able to get the job done.

"I look for our guys to rise up to the challenge," Clark said. "We have a pretty good game plan to attack what they do."

The biggest factor, Clark added, is that Blue Ridge is healthy for the first time since the end of last season.

"Knock on wood, we're pretty healthy," he said. "I feel pretty good. We're ready to go on Friday night."
