Carjacking in Greer leads to arrest of man after chase
Deputies from the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office have arrested 29 year-old, Ruben Russell Ruiz on multiple charges including armed robbery and grand larceny of an automobile after leading deputies and troopers with the Highway Patrol on a chase, Sunday afternoon.

Deputies first responded to the Spinx, at 3815 White Horse Road after receiving a report that Ruiz had stolen a Chevy Silverado. During the course of investigation deputies learned that before stealing the Silverado, Ruiz had dropped off a minivan, which was reported stolen during a carjacking earlier Sunday morning, at a QT in Greer.  That vehicle was recovered.

Shortly after stealing the Silverado, Ruiz robbed an individual at knifepoint, near Farrs Bridge and BlackBerry Valley Road in Greenville.

Following the robbery, deputies spotted Ruiz and attempted to pull him over, however he refused to stop and a chase ensued. Once Ruiz drove into Pickens County, Sheriff’s deputies lost sight of him, however the case was soon picked back up by the Highway Patrol and it continued back into Greenville County where Ruiz ultimately wrecked near 131 W. Marion Road.

No injuries were reported and Ruiz was taken into custody at the scene of the crash.
