Blair Carrier of Greer, will compete as a Division Finalist in the Southern Division of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Senior Woodwind Competition.

Blair Carrier, a junior honors student at Bob Jones Academy and resident of Greer, will compete as a Division Finalist in the Southern Division of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Senior Woodwind Competition.

Carrier, the daughter of Randy and Julie Carrier, earned this opportunity after winning the State Senior Woodwind Competition of the South Carolina Music Teachers Association Nov. 1, at Newberry College.

In 2018, Carrier earned first alternate at the MTNA Junior Woodwinds Southern Division Competition in Lynchburg, Va.

Carrier is a student of Amanda Barrett of Lyman. Carrier has studied flute for seven years and incorporates the piccolo into her studies.

Carrier’s mother accompanies her on the piano for the competition and they will be performing Georg Telemann’s Fantasia in A minor, Flute Concerto in D Major, Op. 283 by Carl Reinecke, and Eldin Burton’s Sonatina for Flute and Piano.

Carrier has earned All-State Band Honors from the South Carolina Band Directors Association for four consecutive years, winning First Chair All-State Junior Band in 2017.

The Foothills Philharmonic Orchestra granted Carrier the inaugural Future Stars $1,000 Scholarship. Carrier will be the featured soloist at orchestra’s March 28, 2020 concert.

She is also the principal flutist for the Greenville County Young Artist Orchestra. Carrier performed Chaminade’s Flute Concertino last February with the YAO at the Peace Center for the Performing as a result of winning the GCYO Concerto Scholarship Competition in 2018.

Carrier won the South Carolina Flute Society’s Senior Artist State Competition. She is the principal flutist for the Bob Jones Academy band and orchestra and plays piano for her church youth group at Morningside Baptist Church.

Division winners proceed to the MTNA National Competition Finals in March 2020 in Chicago, Ill.
