The proclamation honoring Bruce Taylor.
The kindness Bruce Taylor, 91, has shared in Greer for more than 70 years was paid forward when Mayor Rick Danner issued a proclamation at a City Council meeting.
Taylor, in August, finished runnerup in the Meals on Wheels Association of America’s American Volunteer of the Year. That earned the Greer Community Ministries’ Meals on Wheels a $750 donation from the national agency.
Danner described Taylor “as another great asset for the City of Greer. He made mention of Taylor’s service in World War II, and settling in Greer fore more than 70 years after graduating from Clemson University, having a 30-year career at Victor Mill and post-retirement work at Dobson’s Hardware. Taylor has been a member of Victor Baptist Church for 50 years.
Taylor had the people in the room laughing when he told Danner, “I thought about running against you.”
A sustained standing ovation was given Taylor.
