We’re receiving e-mails asking for more about food in restaurants and stores. Aiming to please here’s some news that came to us today. Yes, we’ll tweet and e-mail, too, so you don’t miss any last minute specials.
BIG CHANGE FOR COKE: Beginning next month Coca-Cola will be stocking 1.4 billion cans featuring a family of polar bears (mom and two cubs) with a white and gray background of sky and snow. Coca-Cola’s red script will run across the can’s top. The holiday campaign partners Coke with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to preserve habitats for polar bears in Canada and Greenland. Polar Bears have been the brand’s mascot since 1922. Coke will donate $2 million to the WWF and ask the brand’s fans to donate $1, with the beverage company matching every dollar up to $1 million.
DICKEY’S BARBECUE CHAMPION:  Eric Dahl “The Best Pulled Pork Eater in Minneapolis” has added Dickey’s barbecue to his collection of eating contests. Dahl, from Rochester, Minn., won Dickey’s Original Barbecue Pit national barbecue eating contest by downing 12.5 pulled pork sandwiches in six minutes in Dallas, Tex., the home of Dickey’s. He won $500.
SANDWICH DAY CONTEST: Yes, there apparently is a National Sandwich Day, celebrated on the birthday of Earl of Sandwich, Nov. 3.  Land O'Frost is celebrating all "relatives" of the sandwich, that is all Sams, Samuels and Samanthas, by rewarding the first baby named Sam, or some variation, born on Nov. 3, 2011 free lunch meat for every year they are in school (from age 5 to age 18).
