The Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) has chosen C. Lynn Cole, as the 2015 Oncology Certified Nurse of the Year. Cole, of Boiling Springs, was selected based on her contributions to oncology nursing and oncology nursing service, and her support and promotion of oncology nursing certification.

Cole serves as a Thoracic Clinical Navigator at the Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System and Gibbs Cancer Center and Research Institute in Spartanburg. In her inpatient oncology unit, she has increased the percentage of certified nurses by acting as a Clinical Unit Educator and a Certified Instructor for the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy/Biotherapy course.

Cole established and coordinated a program to provide low dose CT (LDCT) lung cancer screening. Through her efforts, 91 patients have received the screening – two of which were diagnosed with early stage lung cancer. Her focus on lung cancer goes beyond work, as she also initiated an event, “Shine a Light on Lung Cancer” to provide patients and their caregivers an opportunity to celebrate life.

“I don’t think I do anything special. This is just what a good oncology nurse does,” Cole said.
