Dodd wins gold, 2 bronze; Greer boys relay 2nd in state meet

Eastside's Duer and Smith win championships

Takeyra Jenkins Dodd of Greer won a gold medal in the 400 meters run and a silver in the 200 at the South Carolina High School State Championships this evening in Columbia.

Dodd won the 400 in 55.72 seconds beating Imani Boatwright of Lower Richland who clocked 57.31. Dodd just missed, by .36 of a second of winning gold in the 200. Chelsea Johnson of Wilson won with a 24.56 time.

Eastside’s Caroline Duer and Sydney Smith won gold medals. Duer added two bronze medals and teammate Katie Anderson earned a bronze.

Duer won the 1,600 meters race in 5:10.35 edging Hilton Head’s Faith Lifer, 5.11.76. Victoria Burdette of South Point, 5:17, was third.

Smith won the 400 hurdles in 1:07.46 followed by Atira Williams of Lower Richland in 1:08.13 and Johnnie Gaston of Bluffton in 1:09.88.

Duer won her bronze medals in the 800 and 3,200. Imani Boatwright of Lower Richland won the 800 in 2:17.95 followed by London Miller of Wade Hampton in 2:18.40 and Duer at 2:19.96.

Duer, in the 3200, finished behind Fort Mill teammates Meredith Kilburn, 11:43.72, and Melissa Smith, 11:46.01. Duer clocked in at 11:53.71.

Anderson’s finished third in the high jump with a leap of 5-feet, 2-inches. Ashlee Easy of Cane won with a jump of 5-6 and Latesha Simpson of Clinton was second at 5-6.

Seneca won the girls 3A title with 89.5 points with Wade Hampton second, 60, and Lower Richland third, 53. Eastside was fifth with 48 points and Greer was seventh with 30 points

The Greer boys 400 relay earned silver in the 400 relay. Dreher won the gold with a time of 41.70 and Greer was .69 of a second back with a time of 42.39.

Dreher won the 3A boys championship, 88 points, followed by South Pointe, 58, and Hilton Head, 52. Greer tied Seneca for 10th place with 18 points.
