I hope you all had a wonderful Easter, blessed with family and friends throughout the day.

Our minister at Greer First Presbyterian, Brandi Casto-Waters, gave a beautiful sermon and during it, she asked us to feel our pulse stating, “This is life, rejoice and give thanks for it each day.”

With the same enthusiasm, I ask you to give thanks for the health that you have or the health you are trying to attain through your journey.

I know that this morning I decided to "begin again" after such a fabulous weekend of eating more than my share of delicious food. My body could tell the difference, sluggish, swollen and slow moving.

But instead of wanting to give up and saying, ‘Oh these extra pounds won't matter,’ I realized it would only take a few weekends of eating like that to add up, so this morning I was awaken with a different mindset due to Brandi's reminder.

It's Monday and the sun is out. How lucky I am to be up and at it today instead of fighting some terrible disease? The word persevere also came to mind. I hope this inspirational acronym by BJ Gallagher (“The Power of Perseverance”) will help get you on the weight loss track today, stay on it and be able to give thanks at the end of your weight loss journey.

• Persist no matter what.

• Endure discomfort.

• Request help.

• Steadfastly hold on to your beliefs and values.

• Envision triumph.

• Very consistently keep at it.

• Embrace adversity as your teacher.

• Refuse to give up.

• Enjoy and celebrate every tiny bit of progress.
