Operation Get Smart, a program of the S.C. Department of Corrections, is coming to Greenville County’s Mount Pleasant Community Center on Tuesday, May 8 at 6 p.m.
The program lets youth and their parents hear from six to ten carefully screened inmates about actions that led to their involvement in crime and the consequences of criminal behavior. The inmates reinforce the positive values and life skills that parents and educators encourage such as making good decisions based on right and wrong, consequences of making poor choices, being responsible for their own actions, staying away from drugs and alcohol, choosing friends carefully and the difference between positive and negative peer pressure.
“This program has been so successful in Brutontown at helping parents whose kids are on the borderline of making bad choices that we want to replicate it in as many communities as possible,” said Brutontown Community Center Director, Joey Freeman.
