A former Traveler Rest police officer has been charged with a sex crime, according to Lt. Ryan Flood of the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office.

Shawn Jeffrey Jenkins, 27, is charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct, according to Flood. The warrant states the victim is a 17 year-old boy.

An investigation was launched after receiving a report on Aug. 7 regarding the accusations against Jenkins, according to Flood. Jenkins possessed a Taser and made a verbal threat to unlawfully commit sexual acts on a victim, according to Flood.

The teen told investigators Jenkins pointed the Taser at him and told him “strip or be tased,” according to the warrant.

Jenkins and the victim were familiar with each other and had known each other for several years, according to Flood.

Jenkins was a police officer for less than six months before he was fired last week, according to Travelers Rest Police Chief Ben Ford.

Jenkins was arrested Tuesday morning and posted bond for his $20,000 bail, Flood said.
