The Furman University Board of Trustees approved promotions and/or tenure for 13 faculty members, and granted emeritus status to 13 professors who are retiring this summer.
The board also recognized the contributions of two trustees – Francie M. Heller of Greenwich, Conn., and Gordon R. Herring of Greenville – whose terms will expire June 30.
Faculty members promoted Saturday to the rank of full professor were:
• Terri L. Bright (art)
• Weston R. Dripps (earth and environmental sciences)
• Brian C. Goess (chemistry)
• Erin R. Hahn (psychology)
• Suresh Muthukrishnan (earth and environmental sciences)
• Savita Nair (history)
• Travis W. Perry (biology)
• Greg Springsteen (chemistry)
• Alfons H. Teipen (religion).
Courtney L. Tollison (history) was promoted to the rank equivalent to a senior lecturer/full professor as Distinguished University Public Historian and Scholar.
Those promoted to the rank of associate professor and granted tenure were:
• J. Cecilia Kang (music)
• Erin Wamsley (psychology)
• Patricia P. Sasser (library) was promoted to the rank of associate librarian.
The 13 professors granted emeritus status are:
• John S. Beckford (music)
• Paul M. Cook, II (mathematics)
• Gilles O. J. Einstein (psychology)
• Leslie W. Hicken (music)
• Lon B. Knight, Jr. (chemistry)
• Paul G. Kooistra (sociology)

All promotions, tenure and emeritus status become effective Aug. 1.
