GPD offers safety tips for holiday shopping
The Greer Police Department is offering safety tips to help ensure a safe and happy holiday season.

“Safety is everyone’s responsibility, please partner with the Greer Police Department in an effort to make this a safe, happy and peaceful holiday season for all,” Lt. Patrick Fortenberry said.

• If shopping late in the day or after dark, park in an area that is well lighted.

• Park as close to your destination as you can and take notice of where you parked.

• Be aware of your surroundings.

• Be sure to lock your vehicle and have your keys in hand when approaching your

vehicle to leave.

• Do not leave packages or valuables on the seat of your car. If you must leave something in the car, lock it in the trunk or put it out of sight.

• When possible shop in pairs. There is safety in numbers plus you get to spend

quality time with a loved one or friend.

• Avoid carrying large amounts of cash. Pay for purchases with checks, credit or debit cards.

• If you’re going out of town have a neighbor or relative watch your house for you. Place automatic timers on lights in the house and have your mail service stopped.

• Track deliveries online and confirm their delivery. If possible have a friend or neighbor pick up packages as soon as they are delivered to your home.
