Greer volleyball edged in 5-game thriller

Greer and Blue Ridge produced an exciting volleyball match that went five games before Blue Ridge came from behind to win 3-2 Tuesday night.

The teams exchanged alternated winning the first four games with Greer beating Blue Ridge 25-18 in game 1 followed by Blue Ridge winning 19-25, Greer going up a game with a 25-15 victory and Blue Ridge squaring the match winning game four 17-25. Blue Ridge won the decisive game 11-15.

Caroline Neely had an outstanding performance for Greer with 14 assists, 4 aces, 8 kills and 11 digs. Shelby Garrett added 2 aces, 16 kills and 6 digs. Julia Sudduth, a sophomore, recorded 15 assists, 4 aces and 2 digs. Brooke Swafford had 10 kills and 12 digs.

Greer is 4-3 in the Peach Blossom Conference 3A and 7-10 overall.

Greer has a home match versus Greenville Thursday at 7 p.m. The jayvees play at 5:30 p.m.
