Greer will have a rematch with Clinton Friday in the first round of the state 3A playoffs Friday night.

The No. 4 ranked Yellow Jackets beat Clinton, 23-14, in Greer’s season’s opening game on Aug. 29. While Greer went on to finish the regular season 10-0, Clinton finished 2-8 – beating Union County and Chester back-to-back on Oct. 17 and 24, respectively.

Game time at Dooley Field Friday night is 7:30 p.m. The early weather forecast has game-time temperature in the low 50s under clear skies.

It was Senior Night for Greer last Friday when the Yellow Jackets smothered Blue Ridge, 51-0.

Seniors were asked their feelings after Greer completed only the second unbeaten season in 20 years.

Mead Cook

Right guard

“It’s a really good feeling, being a senior, coming out on senior night, and beating our big rival. It’s always a big game against Blue Ridge, and to blow them out like that and to finish the season 10-0 and hopefully fulfill our dream of winning state and getting a ring — It’s an exciting day.”

Tiquan Lyles

Defensive line

“We’ve been working hard this whole season to push forward with practice and motivation. We’ve just been working hard trying to go to state.”

Xavier Wright

Wide receiver/linebacker

“I feel good, because we haven’t made 10-0 in a long time.”

Pierce Bishop

Defensive tackle

“10-0 is crazy. It hasn’t happened in a very long time for Greer history. The thing about our team is that you don’t really have any standout players like you’ve had in the past. We’re all just a big team. We spread out the ball, we work together, and it’s just awesome. We don’t have much adversity when we’re practicing; we’re not really getting at each other. It’s awesome.”

Tyler Wright

Linebacker

“It was a process, but every day we worked, and it shows up when we play.”

Cole Henderson

Offensive Line

“It’s crazy. I never thought my senior year would end up like this, but it did. It ended with beating Blue Ridge 51-0. It’s amazing.”

Garrett Poole

Guard/offensive line

“It feels amazing. I’m speechless right now. I’m so thrilled, and I can’t wait to get to our first playoff game.”
