The Greer Yellow Jackets scored all eight of its touchdowns in less than two minutes and one second – 6:57 in total time – to crush Berea 59-0, Friday night at Berea.
Greer was so efficient it needed only 13:42 for all its scoring. Berea had the ball 33:53.
Greer scored a remarkable five first-quarter touchdowns and with George Hernandez’ five points after touchdown kicks opened a 35-0 first quarter lead. Three more TDs and kicks added 21 more points for the Yellow Jackets. Hernandez kicked a 44-yard field goal to finish its first-half scoring, for a 52-0 lead. Greer added seven more points in the fourth quarter.
Greer is 2-6 overall and has two games remaining – Eastside at Dooley Field next Friday and a regular season finale at rival Blue Ridge on Nov. 1.
Gary Tyler and McZavion Holley scored defensive touchdowns. Tyler recovered a blocked punt by Kip Miller at 8:55 of the first quarter and Holley returned a fumble six yards at the 5:09 mark.
Greer’s longest drive was 2:01 that took eight plays to cover 66 yards with Timatrice Thackston carrying the final yard for a TD.
Berea was held to 106 yards and a 2.5-yard per play. Greer averaged 9.9 yards per play.
