Here's a salute to our education partners

I am taking a little extra liberty with this space and giving a shout out to our education partners.

Dr. Brendan Kelly, Chancellor at the University of South Carolina Upstate met with staff members of the newly designed newspaper – The Carolinian. Zandra Shafer, Stephanie Sawaked, Editor Lucy McElroy, and Asia Suber joined Kelly. As usual the case with photographers, Brandon Pack produced this photo. Pack has captured an iconic photo of the administration building bathed in green for the Upstate’s new branding initiative.

The past two Upstate interns with GreerToday both provided quality local coverage and helped plant a base for the next generation of GreerToday. Alexa Hone is in Portland, Ore., at the adidas national corporate office as part of a newly created marketing and promotion initiative and Alex Love is a sports reporter for ABC affiliates KHGI-TV in Kearney, Neb.

North Greenville University and the Greenville Health System announced a partnership to launch the Upstate’s first physician assistant (PA) program. 

The Greater Greer Education Foundation chaired this year by Brent Garrett and vice chairman Skip Davenport, awards thousands of dollars in grants to students, teachers and schools.

Already this year, Eastside High School talented photographer Justin Baustert has had photos produced within the community, was credentialed at the Carolina Panthers summer camp and the Greenville Drive.

Look for Justin’s Solar Eclipse photos Monday, He has already been scouting sites, and has his equipment set up to capture the historic event.

Last year the Chandler Creek Elementary School Press Corps were contributors in a unique program that built a significant following.

The Greer High Times, with advisor Jonathan Duty, produced a highly successful student web site. GreerToday acknowleged its staff producing breaking news stories by promoting its success.

Pam Freeman who produced arguably the most comprehensive sports newsletter in high school sports, has passed the baton this year. Freeman produced a weekly newsletter at Riverside High School.

As the school year begins next week, we are once again inviting schools, classes and students to submit their work here.
