Leonard Wells is upfitting the former Dickey's location at the Target shopping center.
Josey’s Chuck Wagon restaurant, owned by Leonard Wells, is opening in January at 6001 West Wade Hampton Blvd.
Dickey’s Barbecue Pit, managed by Bill Friend, has closed.
“It’s what I’ve done all my life,” Wells said of working in the food and restaurant industry. He was manager at the S&S Cafeteria on Pleasantburg Highway, working there for 29 year. “I like this location because of its proximity to Wade Hampton Boulevard.”
The restaurant will be mostly family run with help from his wife, Wells’ wife, Joy, and daughter, Sabrina.
“I’ve always wanted to have my restaurant,” Wells said. “This has been my lifelong ambition to work for myself.”
Wells is upfitting the restaurant to serve the meat and three market and will have a drive-thru to serve takeout.
Josey’s Chuck Wagon is a name Wells said came easily. “There was a pastry chef at S&S that told me I had the demeanor of Josey Wales,” Wells said. “We’ve become good friends and Josey has stayed with me.”
The restaurant will be open every day, Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. and Sunday 11:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
