Carson McAbee, a senior at St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Greenville, has been named a 2018 National Merit Finalist.

McAbee scored a 1550 out of a possible 1600 on the SAT and a 35 out of a possible 36 of the ACT. He is a 2017 USAPL National Champion in weight lifting and also plays baseball at St. Joseph’s Catholic School.

McAbee is the son of Joey and Renee McAbee of Greer. He is the grandson of Joe Kenneth McAbee of Blue Ridge and Jeanene Cain of Cope.

McAbee has achieved a distinction that places him among the 15,000 students who met the standards to qualify as finalists. He is part of a distinguished group representing less than one percent of all U.S. high school graduating seniors.

Of the 1.6 million National Merit entrants, some 50,000 with the highest PSAT/NMSQT selection Index scores qualify for recognition in the National Merit Program. In September, these high scorers are notified through their schools that they have qualified as either a Commended Student or Semifinalist.

Send education news here. Congratulations to all grads.
