Michelin moves forward with $270 million upstate plant that projects 350 jobs
Michelin North America, Inc. announced it is moving forward with its $270 million distribution center that is projected to create 350 jobs.

The center will be located in Spartanburg County near the intersection of Highways 101 and 417, within seven existing Michelin tire plants across the Upstate region and its North American headquarters in Greenville.

“The Spartanburg distribution facility will cap a multi-year evolution of Michelin’s distribution network in North America,” Chairman and President of Michelin North America Pete Selleck, said.

“We see it as a transformational milestone designed to better serve our customers while optimizing inventories and improving supply efficiency,” he said.

The site will feature five buildings comprising a total of approximately 3.3 million square-feet and will support distribution of tires under Michelin, BFGoodrich and Uniroyal brands for passenger vehicles, heavy trucks and agricultural equipment, the company announced.

Construction on the new center is expected to begin later this year. The first phase is projected to open in late 2017, with full completion expected in early 2019. Hiring for the new positions is expected to begin in 2017.

One of the largest corporations in South Carolina, Michelin designs, manufactures and sells tires for every type of vehicle, including airplanes, automobiles, bicycles, earthmovers, farm equipment and more.
