Greer saluted U.S. Army Pfc. Adam Ross at Greer Idol Friday night with song, dedications and a heartfelt long ovation for his family attending the event. Ross was killed in Afghanistan last Tuesday when he was caught in an ambush.
Mike Lowery, Greer Idol emcee for the past six years, told the spectators he often questioned why he maintained emceeing the annual summer competition. Friday night the answer came to him.
Thunder opened tonight's Greer Idol performances, but the rain held off long enough for the contestants to give some exceptional performances.
Song selections had to be chosen from movie soundtracks, and the songs featured tonight covered six decades of history.
Seniors Jessica Gay, B.B. Lowery and Alexis Miller were girls just wanting to have fun tonight in their final home basketball game at Greer High School. Greer beat Spartanburg Christian Academy 46-31.
"We just wanted to go out on a good note. This was the last time we would be playing together and it was good that we won," Gay said.
This is one of Mike Lowery’s happiest times of the year and it is one of his most gut wrenching.
Doug Allen or Dana Jordan will be selected winner of Greer Idol 5 on Friday night. Auditions that began during the Greer Family Fest, and have been ongoing throughout the summer, will come to a climatic finish with each person singing three songs.
