Yanti Chappell and her four children are living in their own home thanks to Habitat of Greenville County and the partnership between Greenville Technical College (GTC) and Michelin.

GTC and Michelin partnered, for the first time, to build a home for a local family through Habitat for Humanity of Greenville County.

A grant from Greer State Bank aided the first completed Habitat in Greer in two years.

Chappell’s sweat equity and preparation for home ownership through financial home ownership workshops were part of Habitat’s requirements for new occupants.

The project brought together more than 350 volunteers from Greenville Technical College including Building Construction Technology students and every major student organization along with faculty and staff. It was also supported by hundreds of Michelin volunteers, serving as a team building exercise for many departments.

Michelin and its employees, for the past 10 years, have helped build a house for Habitat for Humanity. GTC has assisted with builds for many years and the college’s president, Dr. Keith Miller, has been part of Habitat’s CEO build since 2013.
