Natalie Dopp leads this leg of the Special Olympics Unified Relay Across America Flame of Hope torch relay as it makes it way through Greer en route to Los Angeles.
Now, Natalie is asking for help.
She is almost half way to the $1,500 goal for Special Olympics so she can acquire a torch used in the relay and defines so many accomplishments in her life.
“Natalie understands why she was designated to participate in something that is near and dear to her heart,” Gail Dopp, Natalie’s mother, said. “She feels so fortunate.”
Natalie, the Special Olympian from Greer, joined members of the Greer Police Department and the officers from the Los Angeles PD and LA County Sheriff's Department, running a leg of the cross-country torch relay through Greer. She was also selected to have Greer’s Torch lit at City Park.
The Greer officers and team took turns running through the streets with the torch. When the relay ended, Natalie said, “I finished,” Gail said. It was the longest Natalie has run since Special Olympic races are much shorter.
The Greer PD raised enough to get a torch, Steve Owens, City of Greer spokesman, said.
“Natalie is going door-to-door and is asking friends and anybody she knows to help raise the money,” Gail Dopp said.
