No. 2 ranked NGU wins first round tournament game

North Greenville University, ranked No. 2 nationally and top-seeded in the Conference Carolinas baseball tournament, beat Limestone, 12-7, Thursday in the first round at Burlington, N.C.

It’s the highest baseball ranking for NGU, 40-6 overall this season.

The Crusaders sent 13 batters to the plate in their half of the first inning to build a 9-3 lead.

For NGU

• Connor Grant recorded three hits and two RBIs.

• John Jones had two hits and two RBIs

• Jared Lembcke pitched three innings. He allowed one run on two hits and a walk. Lembcke was credited with the win.

• Only one starting player went hitless for NGU.

NGU plays Erskine at 3 p.m. Friday.
