Northwood trims Florida, reaches Southeast LL championship
Northwood Little League defeated Florida, 6-5, on Tuesday at Warner Robbins, Ga., to advance to the Southeast Regional baseball championship.

Northwood, unbeaten, 3-0, in the tournament, and the South Carolina state champions, advances to Thursday’s championship game at 5 p.m.

Florida and Virginia play Wednesday at 3 p.m. in an elimination game. The winner plays Northwood Thursday.

Northwood scored the winning run in the top of the sixth, with the score tied 4-4, when Terrence Gist signaled home Ryan Chapman.

Bradley Lewis, the third Northwood pitcher, held Florida hitless over the final two innings.

Alex Edmondson had a sterling game for Northwood. He hit a home run in the third inning, got on base three times, scored two runs and two runs batted in.

The teams traded two-run innings in the third and fifth.

Northwood previously defeated North Carolina, 9-3, and Tennessee, 18-9, in its first two games.

A win by Northwood in the championship would make it the first team from South Carolina to advance to the Little League World Series since Clinton did it in 1950.
