Northwood Little League won the Southeast Regional Championship at the Tournament of State Champions defeating Virginia 11-3 Wednesday at Greenville, N.C.

Northwood lost to Virginia in pool play earlier in the tournament.

Northwood pounded 14 hits, grabbing an early lead in the third inning, and then scored five runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth.

“There’s nothing more exciting than seeing a team come back to win that final game after losing a few days before,” Northwood manager Adam Shirley said. “The boys played as a team and improved week to week. They were excited. The coaches were excited. The parents were excited. It’s always a goal to win any tournament in which you play.”

Northwood was 4-1 in the Regional that featured eight state champions, defeating Georgia, Alabama and North Carolina in the semifinals. The win represents two regional titles at the Tournament of State Champions for Northwood Little League.
