Alan Dean Edney, 76, of 405 West Arlington Ave, died September 11, 2012 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Greer on June 3, 1936, Alan was the son of the late Paul and Lecy King Edney. He was a 1954 graduate of Greer High School and graduate of University Of South Carolina. He was a former employee of Liberty Life Insurance and retired from Marriott Hotels in 1989.

He was an active member of Washington Baptist Church where he served faithfully as former chairman of the finance committee and treasurer. Mr. Edney was a member of the Long Range Planning Committee and a U.S. Air Force Veteran.

Surviving:

Surviving are his wife Patsy Tapp Edney of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Pam and Phil Durham and Sandy and Mike Chafee all of Greer; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen and Milton Gordon of Greer and Jean and Dennis McKinney of Taylors; three grandchildren, Austin, Anna Rish and Trace Durham; mother-in-law, Edith Miller Tapp of Greer; nieces Debbee Gordon, Paula Gordon White (Jimmy), Tracey McKinney Chapman (Julian) and Dawn McKinney Esposito (Edward) and one great-niece Emily White.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday, September 14, 2012 at Washington Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Drew Hines and Rev. Joe Price. Burial will follow in Washington Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Sammy Tapp, Jimmy White, Mike Chafee, Phil Durham, Austin Durham and Knox White.

Honorary escort will be Ronnie Knight Sunday School class.

Visitation will be held 1:00-2:45 p.m. Friday at Washington Baptist Church. The family is at the home.
