Horace William Mullinax, 92, formerly of 60 Lawrence Street, widower of Virginia Smith Mullinax, passed away on August 29, 2012 at Ashlan Village, Lyman, S.C.
He was born in Greenville County on October 15, 1919 to the late Jerry and Hester Rice Mullinax, but lived for over 80 years in Lyman.
A WWII Navy corpsman with the 1st Marine Division, he served in the South Pacific (Guadalcanal & New Guinea). He married Virginia Iona Smith on May 19, 1944 while on 30 day service leave, graduated Wofford College in 1950 Phi Beta Kappa and worked at Lyman Printing & Finishing for 32 years.
Mr. Mullinax was a sports enthusiast, golf champion, an active churchman, civic volunteer and a fire chief.
Surviving are three sons, John W. (Joy) Mullinax of Tellico Plains, TN, Eric (Roberta) Mullinax of Chattanooga, TN and Morris Mullinax of Aiken, SC; one sister, Doris Earnhardt of Charleston; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Mullinax was predeceased by a son, Tommy Mullinax.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Wood Mortuary conducted by Rev. Brian Gilmer. A private committal will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Visitation will be held 5:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at Wood Mortuary.
