Morris Cannon Smith, 89, passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 in Spartanburg, SC.

He was a lifetime resident in the Wood?s Chapel and Duncan community and was very active in his church, Victor United Methodist Church.

He was born on October 25, 1926, and was the son of the late DeWitt and Ione Smith.

Morris was a man of faith and kindness who spoke few words and maintained a humorous spirit to the end. He was forever devoted to his family and had a lifelong passion for farming.

For more than 40 years he was the Owner of Smith-Compton in Spartanburg, selling and working with farm equipment.

He was predeceased by his wife, Nellie McAlister Smith. They were married on December 21, 1946.

Surviving:

Surviving are his daughter, Kathy J. Rogers of Spartanburg, SC; one son, Terry M. Batchler-Smith (Jim) of Spartanburg, SC; one sister, Martha Hayes of Duncan, SC and one step-granddaughter, Christina Batchler.

Mr. Morris was predeceased by four sisters, Hazel Jackson, Helen Bruce, Doris Stephens and Virginia Mullinax and one brother, Gentry Smith.

Funeral Services:

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 16, 2016 at The Wood Mortuary conducted by Rev. Les Gardner.

Burial will follow in Wood Memorial Park.

Visitation will be held 12:30-1:45 p.m. Saturday at The Wood Mortuary.

The families are at their respective homes.
