Paul Wiggins Peeples, M.D. passed away on April 3, 2012. He was born on November 8, 1927 in Estill, South Carolina, and was the youngest of six children. His parents were Mahala Varie Folk and Johnston Peeples, M.D.

Dr. Peeples served in the U.S. Army during WWII and in the U.S. Army Reserves.

He was a graduate of Duke University and the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), and for 34 years, he practiced family medicine in Greer, South Carolina. A dedicated and loyal supporter of MUSC, he was a lifetime member of the Society of 1824. He also held membership in First Families of South Carolina and was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church.

Committed to the ideals of scouting, he was a past member of the board of directors for the Blue Ridge Council, Boy Scouts of America, which recognized his willing advocacy and longstanding service by awarding him the Silver Beaver Award.

Surviving:

He is survived by his wife, the former Rita Heriot Price of Bamberg, South Carolina, and his children, Phyllis Peeples Mescon and Jed Harrison Mescon of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Margaret Peeples Morton and Douglas Gray Morton of Washington, D.C., Paul Wiggins Peeples, Jr. and Elise Schweers Peeples of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Kendall Heriot Morton, AnnaGray Morton, Caroline English Mescon, Ann Elise Peeples, Catherine Price Peeples, and Paul Wiggins Peeples, III.

Funeral Services:

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Memorial United Methodist Church in Greer, 201 N. Main Street, Greer, SC 29650, Medical College of South Carolina, 18 Bee Street, MSC 450, Charleston, SC 29425 or a charity of your choice.

Graveside services will be held at Lawtonville Cemetery, Estill, South Carolina, Saturday, April 7, 2012 at 11:30 a.m.
