Ralph Ransom Burnell, 94, passed away on March 26, 2018.
A native of Clinton, Iowa, son of the late Oriel Lynsfield and Beulah Ransom Burnell, he was a retired 30 year Navy Veteran where he served during WWII, Korean and the Vietnam Wars. Ralph enlisted at age 17 in August 1941 and served aboard CVL27-Langley for 28 months. He was assigned to a Fleet-work study group to write a maintenance manual for every plane in service at that time. His next tour was on The Aircraft Carrier Enterprise. Additionally, he was a member of Abner Creek Baptist Church.
Surviving:
Surviving are his wife, Iris Moss Burnell of the home; three sons, Robert Ransom Burnell of Altamont Springs, FL., Richard Ralph Burnell of Gates County, NC and David Moss of Greer; one sister, Phyllis Trentadoe of IL; four grandchildren, Stephen Moss, Jeffery Moss, Amy Burnell and Caren Hearne and six great-grandchildren.
Mr. Burnell was predeceased by four brothers, Oriel Burnell, Dale Burnell, William Burnell and Lloyd Burnell and one sister, Ollie Burnell.
Funeral Services:
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Abner Creek Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Scott Ogle and Rev. Wallace Hughes. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Honorary escort will be the Courageous Followers Sunday School Class.
Visitation will be held 1:30-2:45 p.m. Thursday at Abner Creek Baptist Church.
