Raymond Earl Powell, 79, of 4 Valhalla Lane, died August 2, 2012 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice House. His first wife of 53 years was the late Joyce Dobbins Powell.

A native of Spartanburg County and son of the late William ?Bill? and Mary Belle Moore Powell. Raymond worked as a drywall contractor for 35 years. He was a graduate of Chapman High School, played football at Clemson in the early 50?s, and served in the Army as an MP at Fort Jackson. He was an active member of the Zoar United Methodist Church, and a member of the Ruritan Club, where he served in leadership roles on the local, state, and national levels. He was an avid Clemson fan and IPTAY Representative.

Surviving:

Raymond is survived by his wife, Sadie Ray Powell of the home; four children, Raymond Powell, Jr. (Virginia) of Greer, Melanie Boccio of Inman, Marianne Edwards (Mark) of Spartanburg, and Diana Dobbins (Joe) of Greer; three sisters, Christine Littlejohn (Bill) of Duncan, Geneva Farmer (Wilton), and Lucille Powell all of Lyman; three step-children, Ron Leidy (Maria) of Columbia, Martha Stansell (Rick) of Simpsonville and Margaret Lemmons (Wick) of Greer; five granddaughters, Wendi Ridge, Abby Walker, Jessica Edwards, April Beck, and Savannah Boccio; seven step-grandchildren, Jennifer Stansell, Jacob Stansell, Brittany Childs, Bobby Lemmons, Amber Hayes, Alicia Lemmons, Caroline Leidy; and two great-grandchildren, Harrison Walker and Vivian Walker.

Funeral Services:

Funeral services will be held 4 pm Saturday at The Wood Mortuary, conducted by Rev. Linda McNatt and Rev. Robert Cox.

Honorary escort will be his Sunday School Class.

Visitation will be held 2:00-3:30 pm at The Wood Mortuary. The family is at the home of his daughter, Melanie, 580 Zimmerman Road, Inman, SC 29349.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Zoar United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 333, Greer, SC 29652 or the charity of one?s choice.
