Richard Rice Gudger, 94, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2018 at his home.

A longtime native of Candler, North Carolina, he was the son of the late James and Mary Rice Gudger.

Mr. Gudger was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII where he served in Normandy.

He was a member of Montmorenci United Methodist Church and an active and longtime member of Candler Lions Club. He had an avid love for golf, antiques, and great friends.

Surviving:

He is survived by his daughter, Beth Lee (Gary) of Greer; two grandchildren, Lindsay Johnson (BJ) and Laura Beth Lee; and two great-grandchildren, Chandler Johnson and Charlotte Johnson.

Mr. Gudger was predeceased by his wife, Frankie Anderson Gudger and two brothers, James Franklin Gudger and Robert Lowry Gudger.

Funeral Services:

Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 p.m. Saturday, May 26, 2018 at The Wood Mortuary in Greer, SC.

Visitation will be held 2:00-3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 27, 2018 at Montmorenci United Methodist Church in Candler, NC with funeral services following at 3:00 p.m.

Burial will follow in the Samuel Bell Gudger Family Cemetery, Candler School Road, Candler, NC with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Candler Lions Club, c/o Marvin Cole, 165 Ridge Road, Candler, NC 28715.

A very special thanks to Jerry Bruce who was like a son to Mr. G and devoted so much of his time entertaining him and driving him around as well as being a dedicated caregiver, to his many other friends for their love and support in the many ways you touched his life, to Interim Hospice Care for their love and care, and to Brenda Pitts, his caregiver for the past two weeks for her incredible love to him and his family.
