Ruby McElrath Reid, 88, formerly of Memorial Drive, widow of Joseph Ridgeway Reid, Sr., died September 21, 2012 at Lexington Medical Center.
A native of Duncan, daughter of the late Boyd Richard and Lillie Kimbrell McElrath, she was a retired employee of State Auto Life Insurance and a member of Memorial United Methodist Church.
In 2001, printed in the Memorial United Methodist Church newsletter when asked to tell about her faith in Christ: ?I serve Christ in my life by doing for other people. I began teaching in the children?s Sunday school department at Woods Chapel United Methodist Church and continued after moving to Memorial United Methodist Church.
I have been active in the United Methodist Women for 50 years, having held several offices, including coordinating bereavement meals. After retiring from State Auto Insurance Company, I delivered Mobile Meals through Greer Community Ministries for several years. Now, I support them through my contributions and participate in the annual walk each May.
Currently I assist in the care of my sister who resides at Roger Huntington Nursing Center. During the trying times and caring for a disabled person, my faith gives me the help and strength I need.
Following the loss of my husband, Joe, my faith in God pulled me through. I also receive inspiration from having attended church all my life, having joined the church when I was 11 years old.
Especially meaningful to me is the Thursday morning prayer group. We meet at the church each week at 9:30 and anyone is welcome.
The Lord has given me a full life and has allowed me to be an active part in the life of my grandson, Jay. I have been able to see him play on the church basketball team and grow and learn to love Christ. ?
Surviving:
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Joseph R. Reid, Jr. and Brenda Reid of Lexington; one grandson, Jay R. Reid, III a senior at Wofford College; nephews, Sam McElrath of Greer and Richard Vaughn of Duncan and nieces, Susan Henson of Campobello, Doris Dill of Taylors, Emma Nodine of Inman and Alinda Mahaffey of Greer.
Funeral Services:
Graveside services will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, September 23, 2012 at Mountain View Cemetery conducted by Rev. Joseph Curtis and Rev. John Rush.
Visitation will be held 2:00-2:45 p.m. Sunday at Memorial United Methodist Church in the Social Hall.
