Hurricane Joaquin has rained out Oktoberfest that was scheduled for Saturday on Trade Street.

Heavy rains, dangerous winds and flooding of creeks and rivers is likely on Saturday and Sunday, according to the National Weather Service's latest warnings.

This is the first time the event has been cancelled in its 10-year history.

“In order to maintain the integrity and safety of the festival, and to protect the quality of events that we put on, this is the best decision we could make under the current circumstances,” Chamber of Commerce President Mark Owens said.

The 10th Annual Greer State Bank Greer Station Oktoberfest will be celebrated Saturday Oct. 1, 2016.
