After 22 years, Greer High School experienced something new Tuesday morning as most of the faculty and staff returned to work from summer break – Greer High School has a new principal.

Justin Ludley kicked off his tenure as Principal of Greer High School as he met with the faculty and staff of Greer High School during the first day of back to schoolwork days. Ludley, a former teacher and coach at Greer High School, was an assistant principal at Southside High School the past four years.

Ludley is taking over for longtime principal Marion Waters, who retired at the end of the 2015-16 school year.

“Today was very exciting,” Ludley said. “It is wonderful to be around a group of educators who care very much about their students, each other, and the community they serve.  It was an honor to welcome everyone back today.”

Ludley met with the faculty and staff in the Media Center in the morning before letting employees get to work on their respective classrooms and daily educational duties. The afternoon was full of team and group meetings.

Faculty and staff were introduced to two new administrators – Cassina Allen and Matt Phillips – and several new staff members.

Allen comes to Greer High School from the Donaldson Career and Technical Center where she was the Director, while Phillips transferred to Greer High School from Greenville High School where he had been an Assistant Principal for several years.

Workdays will be held until the first day of school, Tuesday, Aug. 16.

Ludley is excited about Thursday night’s Back to School Night. “Now that the staff has come back, what I’m really looking forward to this week is seeing the eager faces of the students and parents on Thursday,” Ludley said.

“It will be awesome to welcome them to Greer and talk about the opportunities that they will have this year.”

There will be two “Back to School” Orientations on Thursday. The upperclassmen (grades 10-12) that are new to Greer will meet from 5:30-6:30 p.m., and freshmen will meet from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Students will be able to see their schedules, meet their teachers and gain any information they may need before the school year begins.
