The public is invited to a service Thursday morning marking the 9/11 anniversary at the Boiling Springs Fire Department.

A public service observing the anniversary of the 2001 terror attacks on the United States will be held Thursday at 8:30 a.m. at the Boiling Springs Fire District station.

The BSFD’s 9/11 Memorial will serve as the backdrop as the public and members of the fire service and other first responders will assemble at 5020 Pelham Road (corner of Pelham and Garlington Road).

A brief observance begins at 8:46 a.m., the time that the North Tower of the World Trade Center was hit by American Airlines Flight 11 after being hijacked by terrorists.

The District’s chaplain, the Rev. Dr. Gary Rogers, will make remarks and close the ceremony with the reading of “The Firefighter’s Prayer.”

The event will also include participation by Boiling Springs Fire District’s Honor Guard, Boiling Springs firefighter Peter Janowski, and a release of doves to symbolize our nation’s hope.

Firefighter's Prayer

Author Unknown

When I am called to duty, God,

wherever flames may rage, give me strength to save a life,

whatever be its age.

Help me embrace a little child

before it is too late,

or save an older person from

the horror of that fate.

Enable me to be alert,

and hear the weakest shout, quickly and efficiently

to put the fire out.

I want to fill my calling,

to give the best in me,

to guard my friend and neighbor,

and protect his property. And if according to Your will

I must answer death's call,

bless with your protecting hand,

my family one and all.
