Riverside students sweep Black History Month Essay Contest

Riverside High School and Middle School students were recognized Tuesday night at City Council for winning entries in the Black History Month Essay Contest promoted by the City of Greer.

Greer City Council honored winners of the City of Greer Black History Month Essay Contest Tuesday night  at City Hall.

It turned out to be an all Riverside ceremony. First through third place were awarded students from Riverside High School and Riverside Middle School. Students also earned cash awards with $75 for first place, $25 for second and $15 for third.

The contest required students write on an African-American that influenced American history.

Winning students are:

High School

1. Haley Hutchinson, 11th grade

2. Sarah Rzepczynski, 11th grade

3. Kennedy Bright, 11th grade

Middle School

1. Sarah Bagwell, 6th grade

2. Alyssa Mayernik, 6th grade

3. Sam Williams, 8th grade
