S.C. flooding: Here's how you can help
The S.C. Emergency Management Division has issued the following information of how you can help those in need after the weekend's disaster in Columbia and the lower part of the state:

We at SCEMD are truly grateful and would like to thank all of those who are thinking of South Carolina's citizens.

Volunteer Services

To volunteer your services:

Please visit the United Way Association of South Carolina website

Monetary Donations

Donations of products for disaster relief require transportation, warehousing, and distribution of the products. The most effective offer is a monetary donation. Charitable organizations assisting South Carolina victims will use your donation to purchase - locally if possible - the exact items needed to meet the needs of the victims.

We are requesting that all monetary donations be sent directly to charitable organizations who are assisting our State during this emergency. Please make a selection from the organizations listed below:

  • Adventist Community Services
    1.877.227.2702
  • American Red Cross of Central South Carolina
    1.800.435.7669
  • Feeding America
    1.800.771.2303
  • Harvest Hope Food Bank
    803.254.4432
  • Lutheran Disaster Response
    1.800.638.3522
  • Presbyterian Disaster Assistance

  • Salvation Army

  • Southern Baptist Convention/Disaster Relief

  • United Methodist Committee on Relief
    1.800.554.8583
  • United Way of America
    1.800.272.4630
  • United Way of South Carolina

Clothing

We are not directly accepting used clothing items. However, we are requesting that any in-state clothing donations be taken to a charitable organization within your community. These organizations already have the resources to make the best use of clothing donations.

Food

We are requesting that South Carolina citizens take collected food items to local food banks or other charitable organizations. These local food banks and organizations work with us and will distribute food to the victims in South Carolina and other impacted areas. If you prefer, you may make a monetary donation to the Harvest Hope Food Bank in South Carolina.

If you will be conducting a food drive for disaster relief, please contact Harvest Hope Food Bank to get information on most-needed items.

Product Donations

We will provide information for any product donations as soon as possible.

Again, the citizens of South Carolina appreciate your thoughtfulness during their difficult times.
