Severe weather forces halt to Greer soccer games again

STAFF REPORTS
Published on Friday, April 27, 2012

Severe lightning and rain forced postponement of the Greer boys and girls soccer games versus Union County this evening. It’s the second night in a row the teams were forced off the field because of the weather. Senior night will also be rescheduled.

The Greer boys game, tied 1-1, only played three minutes tonight before weather forced the teams indoors. The game will be restarted with 22:32 left in the second half.  The girls game will be played at the conclusion of the boys game.

Senior night, also postponed for the second night, will be held at a later date.

The Greer boys and girls have clinched region championships, both for the first time in that sport at the high school.

The Union County-Greer games will be rescheduled next week when Union County can agree on a playing date. Greer has non-conference games Monday at Woodmont, Wednesday at Broome, and plays Carolina at Dooley Field Thursday. Girls games are 5:30 p.m. and boys games 7 o’clock.

Region III-3A games take precedent over non-conference games. A non-conference game will be canceled to accommodate the Greer-Union County makeup matches. Region games are figured into playoff seeds. Both Greer teams will find out their first round playoff opponents late next week.
