Sign above Bullock's Barber Shop is missing

Somebody is in a heap of trouble.

The historic sign that has hung majestically above Bullocks Barber Shop at 225 Trade Street for more than 40 years is missing.  It is allegedly stolen, according to Mike Bullock who filed a police report Thursday.

It has only recently been noticed by some customers. David Holtzclaw said he thought the sign was missing between Tuesday night or Wednesday morning. “Someone (downtown merchant) told me they hadn’t seen it in the past three weeks,” Bullock said.

Bullock said he saw a rope hanging from the top of the building and wasn’t able to get on top to see if the sign could have possibly be on the roof because of the recent snow. “I usually come in from the back of the building and don’t look at the front,” Bullock said. “I took a ride into town Wednesday and saw it was missing.”

Bullock said it would have taken some effort to take the sign. “That sign has been around for a long time and it is a heavy sign,” he said.

The sign is sentimental to Bullock because of the barber shop’s heritage but it is also a part of Greer’s downtown history.

Bullock said he has heard from a lot of customers and friends and all have said they are actively looking for the sign.

Anyone having information about the sign or its whereabouts is asked to call the Greer Police Department at 864-848-2121.
