Sugar Creek Fun Runs donated $18,000 to two Greer area non-profits.

The Greer Soup Kitchen (Daily Bread Ministries) and the Frazee Dream Center were each awarded checks for $9,000 with monies raised during Sugar Creek’s Youth Triathlon and Jingle Bell Jog.

The Soup Kitchen relies on donations of food and money to provide one hot nutritious meal a day for anyone who visits. When the check was presented to a volunteer at Daily Bread Ministries, with tears in her eyes, she said, “You have no idea how much we need this.”

The Frazee Dream Center is a preschool, after school and summer program for under resourced children in the downtown Greenville area. The program offers assistance and guidance to children ages 3-16 in the areas of academics, character development, sportsmanship and emotional wellness.

Individuals, churches, civic organizations and students fund the Frazee Dream Center.

The Sugar Creek Fun Runs began in 2008. Sugar Creek and surrounding neighborhoods have come together to promote better health through exercise. In 2011 Sugar Creek reached its maximum registration numbers for both events – 400 youth for the Labor Day morning triathlon and over 800 runners for the December Jingle Bell Jog/Elf Run.

This year’s events are Labor Day, Sept. 3, Youth Triathlon/KinderTry and Saturday, Dec. 8 Jingle Bell Jog/Elf Run.
