Twinkies returns to shelves again on July 15. Hostess Brands LLC said these cakes will have a shelf life of 45 days, more than three weeks longer than the 26 days the previous owners had stated.
A Hostess spokesperson said about 10 percent of its distributors requested for frozen Twinkies so they could stamp their own date on the product.
Hostess closed its factories this past November, after years of management turmoil and a failure to reach a contract agreement with its second biggest union. Its brands were sold off in chunks to different buyers; Twinkies and other Hostess cakes were purchased by Apollo Global Management and Metropoulos & Co., which also owns Pabst Brewing Co.
