Chandler Creek has an after school program called CIS (Communities in School). CIS is an after school program designed to keep kids safe, off the streets or home alone. CIS feels that every child needs and deserves:
1. A one on relationship with a caring adult.
2. A safe place to learn and grow.
3. A healthy start and a healthy future.
4. A marketable skill to use upon graduation.
5. A place to give back to peers and community.
CIS helps immigrant families and their children with academics. Some families cannot speak English, so CIS brings in tutors to help take the load off of them in subjects they may not understand.
I interviewed the following CIS students and here’s how they feel about the program:
Student A: “I feel happy there because they help me with my homework and I love being there.”
Student B: “I feel happy because they help me with my homework.”
Student C: “I love it helps me learn new things.”
Student D: “I feel about CIS that it is cool because they help me with my homework.”
Student E: CIS is when teachers help you. I feel happy because they help me a lot.”
Student F: “I feel happy about it. It helps me do my homework.”
Student G: “It's fun so I can talk to my friends. It helps me.”
Student H: “I feel happy about it. CIS helps me on my homework.”
Student I: “It's fun so I can talk to my friends. CIS helps me on reading.”
Student J: “It's so fun and cool. They help me with my homework.”
Student K: “I like CIS because when I have hard homework, they help me. CIS is very fun and cool.”
Student L: “Fun, amazing, great! I like meeting new people.
Student M: “I like feel happy. They help me on my homework.”
I wrote this story because I want people to know how CIS has helped students this year. I learned so much when I started going there. CIS is really fun and cool.
