Guy Cloer, Caroline Hendricks and Truman Henderson and Tom Ebetino were honored at the Volunteer Recognition celebration for Greer Relief.

The annual event recognizes volunteers who made an impact on the community through the non-profit. “Greer Relief greatly appreciates the over 350 volunteers who gave over 6,500 hours of selfless time, talent and resources,” said Caroline T. Robertson, Executive Director of Greer Relief.

The VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) volunteers were the largest group recognized. They prepared free tax returns for 240 households and returned $214,506 to them.

“The gift of giving is the ability to give money and other forms of wealth joyfully, wisely, and generously to meet the needs of others and help support missions,” said Stevie Rae Lucas, volunteer coordinator.

• 2012 Volunteer of the Year Award to Guy Cloer. Robertson said, "Guy is the perfect example of a selfless, caring, and unsung hero. Not only does he go out of his way to glean for us throughout the year, but he is consistently there for us on an unpredictable schedule."

• The Helping Hands Award to Caroline Hendricks, who spends two days a week working in the food pantry.

• The Spirit of Giving Award to Truman Henderson and Tom Ebetino, owners of Salon 906.

• Rudy Painter, Countybanc Insurance, and Dan Reynolds, 2010 – 2011 Board of Directors President, Greer City Chief of Police, were among the board members recognized.
